Výhra 3:1 nad Mexikem mohla být pro Matildas ještě vyšší, kdyby Ellie Carpenterová nebyla kvůli střele od spoluhráče zasažena do žeber a vyřazena ze hry.
Austrálie vedla 2:1 ve druhé polovině, když Allana Kennedy usilovala o svůj druhý gól v utkání a poslala míč směrem k brance.
Ellie Carpenterová leží na trávníku zraněná, zatímco nad ní stojí Alanna Kennedyová a Sam Kerr.
Střela se zdála být téměř jistá, že dopadne do sítě, jenže Carpenterová ji zasáhla přímo do žeber a odrazila se zpět k obráncům.
“Ellie Carpenterová vzala plnou sílu balonu do břicha,” uvedl pro Paramount+ komentátor Teo Pellizzeri.
Kennedy zůstala v šoku, když se její rána odrazila zpět, ale krátce poté se pokusila o další zakončení, které nebylo úspěšné.
Carpenterová ležela na trávníku viditelně v bolestech a hra byla na krátkou chvíli přerušena. Kennedy se po ní podívala a nemohla si pomoct, aby se neusmála.

“It is not often you see Carpenter go down in pain,” former Matilda Grace Gill said.
“She does not look comfortable at all. She is an absolute warrior of a player.
“It absolutely collected her in the side … it has winded her.”
Trainers helped Carpenter back to her feet and walk back into the action.
And while she was the cause of one goal chance being denied, Caitlin Foord eventually found the back of the net in her milestone 150th game to lift the Matildas to a 3-1 lead in the 70th minute.
Earlier, Kennedy opened the scoring at CommBank Stadium on Tuesday, capitalising off a short corner kick by Mary Fowler, who found Clare Wheeler to send a long cross into her teammate to score.
Mexico hit back on the scoreboard four minutes later via Diana Ordonez.
Sam Kerr took a clean shot at goal in the 34th-minute in hopes of getting back in the lead, but her shot hit the post and landed on the back of goalkeeper Esthefanny Barreras.
Much to the displeasure of the Mexican goalkeeper, the ball travelled back over the line and gifted Australia the goal they desired.
“That is a really big moment,” Gill said.
